Happy Sunday!
I can’t believe it’s time to start talking about the 2010/2011 senior season! As my 2009/2010 clients get ready to graduate, I can’t help but be reminded of my own experiences with graduation with last year. It seems as though it was only yesterday that I was graduating myself and to think that I’ve already photographed another class and preparing for the next?! Insane.
If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you might already know that I’m scouting out senior reps this year! Since this is something new I’m trying out this year, I thought I’d answer a couple questions…

Q: What is a senior rep?
A: A senior rep serves as a sort of high school ambassador for Brielle McClain Photography. Senior reps will do a normal senior session with me and then receive web images for promotion on their Facebook/Myspace/etc, as well as some promo cards/coupons to give to their friends and family. The major perk of being a senior rep is that with every person they refer who books a senior session, the senior rep receives 10% off of their session fee! And yes, you can refer enough people to where you can get your entire senior session free — am I blowing your mind yet?

Q: Can anyone be a senior rep?
A: YES! Any one graduating in 2011 who lives in the Willamette Valley area (or are willing to travel to Corvallis/Eugene/Portland/Salem) are eligible to be a senior rep. I will be accepting senior reps on a first come, first serve basis but even those who inquire after I’ve selected my group of senior reps will receive a great deal on their senior session. So really, all you have to do to get a sweet deal is contact me ASAP! Hint: By now, your mind should be blown.

Q: How do I sign up?
A: Shoot me an email at brielle@briellemcclain.com stating your name, town and that you want to be a 2011 senior rep! It’s as easy as that.
If you won’t be graduating in 2011 but know someone who is, feel free to pass this great deal on!
This week has been stressful. Lots of work and lots of homework — and, no, those two things don’t get together too well.
This week has also been wonderful. I’m receiving so many great vibes from both the Corvallis community and the larger Oregon community. Every day I am just more and more amazed of how willing all of you are to spread my name to all of your friends and family. This week I finally got around to making a page for Brielle McClain Photography on Facebook (you can be directed to the facebook page by clicking the link that says {facebook} on the top menu) and was FLABBERGASTED to have 419 fans join within a week. Thank you all for giving me an excuse to use the word ‘flabbergasted’.
This past weekend, we celebrated my mother’s birthday. For the first time, I made dinner for my family — BY MYSELF. For anyone who knows me, this is a huge feat. I have always been the kid who loves food but prefers it made by someone else. I blame this on my mother’s wonderful cooking. But since going off to college, I’ve found that I just can’t do the typical college diet of top ramen and frozen burritos. Slowly but surely, I’ve evolved in the kitchen to the point where I now have a long list of food blogs on my Google Reader and Trader Joe’s is practically my second home. So for my mother, I made one of Julia Child’s famous recipes, coq au vin with a simple potato gratin. Even though I had made it once before…it took THREE HOURS. But just like all of Julia Child’s recipes, it is so worth it.

p.s. the cake was not made by me — I WISH! It was made by Le Patissier and it made me seriously consider eating the entire thing right then and there.
As an Oregon photographer, there’s maybe nothing more frustrating than trying to work a photoshoot around the erratic rain. I know that some Pacific Northwest photographers can rock it out in the rain but I spent the majority of my childhood in Southern California and do. not. like. the. rain. The weather lately — while kind of crazy and unexpected — has been INCREDIBLE! There’s nothing quite like Oregon on a beautiful day. The weekend I met with the Lee family was one of the first days with gorgeous sun! We met in the Pearl District and adventured around a little bit. Poor little Parker was running a fever so we kept things short — part II from our second session coming soon!

Side note: how do we feel about the new blog watermarks/logos?
So far today I have lost my phone in an elevator, found my phone and decide that I’m going to make some challah bread this week. Some serious ups and owns of emotion.
I can’t believe it’s March already — it seems like February happened in a flash. Life is so busy right now but I have to share a couple frames that are hanging out on my computer right now. The weather was just too beautiful to resist taking some photographs of my friend Maja.

This week I was so sick I slept 12 hours (12 beautiful hours) three nights in a row. Despite the astounding hours of sleep I have logged this week, I was still gravitating towards the bed…until I realized that the next day was Friday…meaning self portrait Friday. So, ladies and gentlemen, today you get a rushed, blurry photo because this past week I’ve been feeling a little rushed and blurry myself. Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to go crash.
I hate only giving you guys a sneak peek but I’m too busy for a full post and want you to know what I’m up to! The full post will be coming as soon as possible.
This is from a family session I did in the Pearl District of Portland a couple days ago. I hope you all enjoyed that outrageous stretch of sun as much as I did.

I live in Portland but the majority of my work is in Corvallis…which means I drive. A lot. For the past 6 months I spent most of my weekends commuting and while most people wince when I tell them how much I drive back and forth, I actually love it. Sure, sometimes it gets frustrating having to plan an hour and a half drive into your schedule and then hitting traffic right at the moment when you really (and I mean really) have to pee. But for the most part I look forward to that time — my 90 minutes to rock out to some epic music while the drivers around me pretend they’re not laughing at my ridiculously sick moves; my 90 minutes to dive into my collection of audiobooks; my 90 minutes just to stop and think.

There’s just something about baby Niko.

And it’s kind of sad because you can tell his mom just doesn’t love him AT ALL.

And I just can’t help but think…where’s the love and support for Baby Niko? I mean, does his family even love him? It seems like they hate just being in the same room as the poor guy…

And to top it all off…he’s not even that cute.

Please note that the above statements were complete sarcasm. Not only is Baby Niko ridiculously cute but he has the most amazing family who couldn’t love him more. I cannot thank them enough for allowing me to capture these beautiful moments.
