Oregon,

You’ve taught me that there’s beauty in an untouched forest and therapeutic benefits to a night of solid rain. You’ve proved that there ARE families who grow their own vegetables and raise their own livestock. Cows really do live in some people’s backyards. And while I fought you long and hard, you won the battle and taught me the value of things like fleece coats, Birkenstocks and weatherproof boots.

Most importantly you provided me with a wonderful community to learn from and grow in, full of beautiful friends who truly made Oregon a place to call home. But California is calling and its time to jump back into the freeway grind with all my other L.A. lovers obsessed with consistent weather, taco trucks and a real beach (I still refuse to count the Oregon coast).

I’ll be seeing you again soon,

p.s. I am still traveling to Oregon for photo adventures! Stay tuned for possible session openings in October and July. If you are interested in hiring me for a wedding in Oregon, have no fear! I am very much available for travel.

{tanzania} Dar es Salaam. Day One.

Right after landing in Dar es Salaam, we headed straight to Yatima Group Trust Fund, an orphanage that takes care of over 150 children. The welcoming we received getting off of the bus was overwhelming. My camera and I struggled to keep up as the children and staff of YGTF gave us the warmest and kindest reception. There were hugs, singing, dancing, great food — just absolute joy. It was truly an incredible way to kick off the trip.

{tanzania} Portland –> Los Angeles –> Dubai

Yesterday I came back home from a two week trip to Tanzania. TANZANIA. Even just saying the name makes me excited. I had an absolutely incredible time as a photographer for a very special non-profit there. It was an amazing opportunity and I am so excited to share all of the images with ya’ll. I’ll be blogging them on the daily (fingers crossed), so stay tuned!

Getting to Tanzania was an adventure itself. The flight from Los Angeles to Dubai is 16 HOURS. By the time we got off the plane it was night time and still over 100 degrees. Even after a day of flying, the group felt spontaneous enough to go on a night tour of Dubai and I’m so glad that we did. Dubai is one of the most interesting places I’ve ever seen. In Dubai, water is more expensive than oil and less than 20% of the population are actually UAE citizens. The world’s tallest building, the money, the heat — it was all so overwhelming. As you can only expect from a city built in the middle of the desert.
