{portaits} fly kicks, lovely ladies

When a group of super awesome ladies ask if you’d be up for a shoot revolving around some super fly kicks, you say yes.

And when on the day of the shoot, your computer breaks down and you are an absolute mess and have NO interest in creating digital files of any kind, you break out your trusty ol’ Minolta and do the whole thing on film.

Minolta X-700. Fujifilm X-TRA 400.

Life is crazy. Photography is crazy. And sometimes I think there are SO many possibilities for my camera and I that I am overwhelmed with deciding what to do next. Angles, composition, subject, moments…Sometimes when I’m taking a photograph I feel like I could go in any direction. So it’s nice every once in a while to be given something specific and headshots could not get any more direct. It was wonderful to hop around downtown with Melissa, trying to capture her within the guidelines of a vertical portrait. Good luck, Melissa, with all of your future adventures!

This past Friday I had the incredible opportunity to photograph the Michael Franti + Spearhead concert in Eugene at the Cuthbert. It was an absolutely amazing experience and I hope to have the chance to shoot concerts in the future. There’s just something about clicking the shutter in time to great music that is irreplaceable.

A huge thank you to David Leiken of Double Tee Concerts for this opportunity. Ya’ll should check out Double Tee and all the amazing artists they’re bringing to Portland + Eugene this year!

I have super fond memories of belting out Britney Spears songs with my cousin, Haley. Complete with choreography, of course. I’m pretty sure that there’s video footage of it somewhere and I was SO tempted to find it and put it up here…but now that my computer is back (!!!), there’s lots and lots to do

Haley and I might not be doing any more Britney renditions any time soon but it’s been great to be a part of her life as she gets ready to graduate college and become a nurse! Oh, and she has a boyfriend named Connor. Which I guess is pretty important information for this post.

I was really hating technology. And crazy-packed calendars. And my poor attempt to lower my daily intake of caffeine. I knew I had to create SOMETHING. Something off the beaten path, something I wouldn’t typically have the opportunity to create. Luckily, Nathan Worden (photographer and McAssistant extroidanaire) happily obliged to run around town (literally…and some jumping) with me. A few minutes before shooting as I rambled with Nathan, I decided I wanted these images to be action-driven. Giving Nathan the perfect opportunity to do what he does best — not sit still.

Yes, I am still doing Self Portrait Friday.

But yes, I haven’t posted in WEEKS.

And since I feel like such a bad McBlogger, starting this Friday I’m dedicating the weekend a Self Portait Friday marathon of sorts. Warning: it shall be epic.

In the meantime, feast your eyes upon all the beautiful people I’ve had in front of my camera lately

This girl is going to conquer the world with her infectious smile and cool sunglasses. It helps that she’s ridiculously gorgeous and is unafraid of struttin’ her stuff in the middle of the street.

I could go on and on about how stylish and beautiful Bekah is, the amazing locations we stumbled on shooting around downtown Eugene or how much the camera loved her.

Instead I will just say this:

I could’ve taken her photograph for hours upon hours.
