brielle mcclain bio picture

welcome.

When I was ten years old, I liked to run around my Los Angeles neighborhood with a disposable camera on a wildlife photography expedition (i.e. taking pictures of cats). While I've strayed away from cat photography and disposable cameras, that adventure and excitement has never left. I'm ecstatic to say that my camera and I still go on expeditions of our own -- sometimes in my own backyard and sometimes far away.

Born and raised primarily in Los Angeles with a wonderful stint in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. I am currently pursuing a BFA in photography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Available for work in Southern California, Oregon and abroad.

{personal} angelou + other recent happenings

I’ll be honest with you.
The McBlog has been slow lately. I, myself, have been a little slow lately. Choosing to spend my time working on personal projects and constantly searching for new inspiration. It seems to me that winter is a hard time for a lot of creative souls…Something about the cold and the rain...

{portrait} deedra

Deedra responded to my little Facebook shoutout looking for people up for modeling for my camera and I. And I am so glad she did. Because, really, who else could take my loose idea of an all-black look with a nod towards international espionage and make it look this good? Deedra, thank you for donning...

{portaits} modern day renaissance woman

I’m so excited to spend this winter recharging and getting out of the norm with my camera. And when you have a beautiful roommate and friend who happens to have a costume collection of epic proportions, it’s easy to call her up and say, “Hey, you want to do a renaissance themed shoot today?”. One...

{portraits} a few things you can do with powdered paint

You know how sometimes you post one half of a shoot that involved some fly kicks and lovely ladies…and totally plan on posting the other half? And then a swarm of senior sessions happen and suddenly the McBlog is flooded by the Class of 2011? And then after the swarm dies down…you forget to post...

{portraits} leah

You know when you meet someone and you imagine how perfect they could be in front of your camera? I knew as soon as I met Leah rocking her red lipstick that I just had to photograph her. And for the first time in my life, I actually said that. Out loud. Trying really hard...

{portaits} kehala

An October afternoon spent with good company trying to challenge myself to shoot only in my apartment. And a quote from Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese”, of course.

{portraits} corey

More photos that make me miss summer. More photos that desperately needed to be shared before they withered away further into the deep dark depths of my archives!
When a friend casually tells you over coffee that she recently purchased not one but two vintage swimsuits and continues to say she wouldn’t mind some pictures in...

{portraits} summer in october/friendship times 6

These images are so summer-y it’s almost painful to look at them. It reminds me of how much I miss the sun, my sandals that I wore every day and the beautiful lack of homework. I say this all the while knowing that I’m truly an autumn and winter girl at heart. How can you...

{class of 2011/headshots} mason

First things first, I’m blogging this week over at www.switchfocusblog.com! I’m putting together a FAQ post and would LOVE to hear from my McBloggers if ya’ll have questions about anything photography related…equipment, natural light, etc. I’m definitely not claiming to be an expert but I’d love to share all of the mistakes I’ve made and...
